So I was on my first day in Xi'an and already found myself at a bar :D. I had been taken out to meet some people at a place called Belgian bar which is situated in the aptly named 'Bar Street' which runs along the south wall of the inner city near the south gate.
Belgian bar is run by a foreigner who was outside drinking with his regulars and although it is super expensive at 40 yuan a beer, the beer is good and on tap, the food is tasty I'm told, and there is live music which is always a plus
I thoroughly enjoyed myself and the chance to meet some English speaking people in a familiar environment as everything is so strange around me, the language, food and culture are all so different. I'm glad I come from such a cosmopolitan country as it made it easier to adapt.
I was also taken out soon by my wonderful work colleagues for a welcome party which was great, also started in bar street and ended up at Three as Four which is a little pub run by the incomparable Samantha, where we played pool and had an enjoyable evening with much cheaper beer!All in all I received an awesome welcome to Giraffe and Xi'an due to my great friend and colleagues. I was looking forward to starting my teaching training and meeting the kids.
